Communal showers are a group of single showers put together in one room/area. They are often used in changerooms, prisons, and army barracks for personal hygiene.

Though not as widely used in the West today, communal showers are often present in school locker rooms for use in personal hygiene after physical education. They also continue to exist in some gymnasia and many swimming pools.

In Russia, India, Turkey and the Far East communal showers have been historically common and widely accepted. They have often been associated with public baths and saunas. The attitudes toward communal showers in those countries are much more accepting and relaxed, with significantly less sexual and societal anxiety associated with them due to more relaxed attitudes toward nudity especially in designated private-use public spaces. These attitudes might be changing due to the wide penetration of American culture and television throughout the world. However, the reverse is also true to some extent, with the increased exposure of Americans to different social norms around the world, the potential exists for attitudes toward communal showers and same-sex or even mixed-sex nudity in America to evolve.
